Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a flame-retardant polymer composition composed of a polyvinyl chloride polymer, a graft copolymer of polyvinyl chloride and EVA, etc., calcium carbonate, antimony trioxide and a plasticizer and having improved flame-retardancy, extrusion moldability and mechanical characteristics. CONSTITUTION:The objective flame-retardant polymer composition useful as a sheath of insulated cable, etc., is produced by compounding (A) 100pts.wt. of a polyvinyl chloride polymer having a polymerization degree of 1,000-2,000 with (B) 10-40pts.wt. of (B1) a graft copolymer of polyvinyl chloride and an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) having an EVA-content of 30-50% or (B2) a chlorinated polyethylene having a chlorine-content of preferably 30-40%, (C) 30-80pts.wt. of calcium carbonate preferably having an average particle diameter of <=1.5mum and surface-coated with a fatty acid, etc., (D) 5-20pts.wt. of antimony trioxide and (E) 30-80pts.wt. of a plasticizer (e.g. phthalic acid ester).
