Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable drawing at a low temp. and to simply obtain an optical fiber by simultaneously drawing sol for core glass contg. particles having prescribed Si-O bonds and sol for clad glass from a vessel having a multi-ply walled structure. CONSTITUTION:Sol 2 for a core contg. particles having (Si-O-Si) bonds or a linear polymer and sol 3 for a clad are simultaneously extruded and drawn from the outlets 12, 14 of a vessel 1 having a multi-ply walled structure. The core sol 2 is coated with the clad sol 3 and fiber sol FS is obtd. The fiber sol FS having the double structure is converted into gel with a gelling device 4 and vitrified with a vitrifying device 6 to obtain an optical quartz fiber.
