Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a ribbon removing post on a carriage adapted to reciprocate parallel to a platen at such a position as to restrict the angle at which a ribbon is removed to an appropriate value, whereby different shapes of ribbon cassettes can be used in common, or a ribbon cassette which is not symmetrical with respect to the transverse center line thereof can be reversed for another use. CONSTITUTION:A printing head 7 is brought into press contact with a sheet of paper 17 by the urging force of a spring 8, and a carriage 4 is caused to move parallel to a platen 2 by a carriage driving means while applying pressure onto the platen 2 via the paper 17. An ink ribbon 16 is then pulled out of a ribbon supply reel 14 to pass through an opening 13a provided on the supply side the ribbon cassette. The ink ribbon 16 is then brought into press contact with the paper 17 by the printing head 7 and is heated by the same. Afterwards, the ribbon is removed from the paper 17 at the angle restricted by a ribbon removing post 9. After the printing on the paper is properly performed, the ribbon 16 is taken up by a ribbon take-up reel 15 via an opening 13b provided on the take-up side of the ribbon cassette. the ribbon moving angle 18 is maintained at a given value during this operation.
