Abstract

PURPOSE:To variably control a printing time according to the gradations of an image, by discriminating a maximum energization time for giving a maximum density gradation in each printing line, and finishing an energizing mode to switch to a cooling mode at the end of the maximum energization time. CONSTITUTION:A gradation data discriminating circuit 32 checks the bit status of each gradation data sent from a data comparator 28, and sends a detection signal DE to a timing controlling part 34 when a maximum energization time for giving a maximum density gradation in a printing line is over. On receiving the signal DE, the controlling part 34 resets a gradation counter 30, and causes a line memory 26 to stop a reading operation. The comparator 28 finishes generating the gradation data, the controlling part 34 causes a clock signal generating circuit 38 to stop outputting a clock signal, inputting to a shift register 12 is finished, generation of a latch signal by a latch signal generating circuit 40 is also stopped, and an energizing mode for a printing head 100 is finished. The timing controlling circuit 34 operates a timer 36, and when a predetermined cooling mode time is over, an output signal is generated from the timer 36, upon which the controlling part 34 causes a paper-feeding motor 44 to feed a paper by a one-line amount.
