Abstract

PURPOSE: To speed up the traveling speed of a tape, and to improve a retrieving speed as maintaining the discrimination properties of a reproduced picture at the time of a high speed retrieval by extremely reducing a tape winding angle at the high speed retrieval, and recording the information of whole one screen within the range of said winding angle.
CONSTITUTION: The tape 1 is wound around a drum 6 by 90° at the time of the high speed retrieval, and it means a state that only the lower half of a recording track is in contact with a head. A signal, obtained at the time that the tape 1 is reproduced while it is made to travel at high speed in this state is only from the lower half of the tape 1, but because the information of whole one screen is recorded on both the lower half and the upper half of the track, all odd number lines are reproduced, and the signal of the whole picture frame is obtained. The signal of the scanning line of an even numbered turn is generated by an interpolating processing, and the signal which is close to the reproduced signal of one picture frame can be obtained by reading it after storing it in a field memory again. Thus, by making the tape winding angle at the high speed retrieval small compared with a normal reproduction, a friction resistance between the tape and the drum can be made small, and a tape speed can be made large, and the retrieving speed can be elevated.
