PURPOSE:To rotate a tool at a high speed without increasing the speed of a main spindle and decreasing machining precision and mounting an individual speed increaser, by a method wherein a rotary part is rotated from a stationary part through rotation of a main shaft, and a tool gripping part is rotated at a high speed through a planetary mechanism. CONSTITUTION:In a tool adapter with a built-in speed increasing mechanism, the shank of a tool T is inserted in a taper hole 16 of a sleeve 17, an annular groove 6 of a flange part 2 is gripped by an exchange handle to insert a taper shank 3 in the taper hole of a main spindle S, a tension rod is threadedly joined with a screw hole 7 and secured to the main spindle S. A locking pin P of a main spindle head is inserted in a lock hole 15 of a large housing 9, and when the main spindle S is rotationally driven, a rotary part A is rotated from a stationary part B integrally with the main spindle S. Thus, a planetary roller 13 making contact with a stationary ring 14 is revolved and also rotated, the sleeve 17 is rotated in a manner that a rotation speed is increased to a value higher than that of the rotary part A, i.e. the main spindle S. A thrust load on a tool T is supported by the main spindle S through the sleeve 17, a rolling bearing 18, the stationary part B, a rolling bearing 18, the rotary part A.
