Abstract

PURPOSE:To develop an improved plant which inhibits photorespiration of C3 plants and has high photosynthesis efficiency, by allowing cytoplasma to manifest high carbonic anhydrase activity. CONSTITUTION:The cytoplasma or cytoplasmic membrane of a C3 photosynthesis plant such as a food plant such as tomato or lettuce or a woody plant such as poplar or Japanese cedar is fused with liposome embedded with carbonic anhydrase activity to breed an improved plant in which translocation of carbon dioxide is improved to increase the carboxylase/oxygenase activity ratio and photorespiration is inhibited.
