Abstract

PURPOSE:To always attain recording by optimum recording power by providing a position detection means and a drive means so as to change the radiated peak luminous quantity at recording of a semiconductor laser radiated onto an optical recording medium specifically. CONSTITUTION:An optical head 16 is moved to the home position at the start to reset a position signal outputted by a recording/reproducing position detection circuit 12 and a position signal representing the relative position from the home position is outputted normally as an 8-bit digital signal. Data is read from a data table stored in a ROM by using a position signal as an address in a recording position-current conversion circuit 13 and the data is outputted to a semiconductor laser drive circuit 14. The optimum recording power varies nearly with the 0.6-0.9 power of the line velocity depending on the kind of a recording medium and it is coped easily by changing the data stored in the ROM. Thus, the recording by the optimum recording power is attained and a reproducing signal with different duty ratio from the recording signal is obtained independently of the recording position.
