Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a safety glass most suitable for windshields of automobiles, by defining the thickness of a glass plate, forming a plane compressive stress in a specified range on the periphery thereof, and further forming a plane tensile stress below a specified value in the inside area adjacent to the inside of the said periphery. CONSTITUTION:Ordinary plate glass, floating glass, heat rays absorbing glass or the like can be used as glass plate 1 of a safety glass made by joining a glass plate 1 and a crack-resistant plastic film 2, and it is preferable that the said glass plate has a thickness in the range of 3.0-4.5mm so that it can be processed by applying various types of bending. The plane compressive stress of 50kg/cm<2>-650kg/cm<2> is formed on the periphery of the glass plate and the plane tensile stress below 60kg/cm<2> is formed in the inside area adjacent to the inside of the said periphery. A transparent plastic film such as thermoplastics, thermosetting plastics etc. can be used as the crack-resistant plastic film 2. As a result, the value of the breaking stress is made higher and a safety glass is obtained, that provides an excellent effect in case that there is a residual stress when and after fitted to an automobile.
