PURPOSE:To contrive to attain high density recording and to improve the positioning accuracy between a head and a disk by supporting the upper part of a spindle shaft driving the disk and providing a support arm coupled with a base of a head disk assembly. CONSTITUTION:A spindle shaft 5 projected to an upper part of a hub 8 of a spindle motor 9 is supported by a support arm 2 coupled with a base 11 of head disk assemblies 6, 7 to suppress the lateral vibration of the assembly of the spindle shaft 5, the disk 6 and the hub 8. That is, both ends of the spindle shaft 5 are supported to attain high rigidity of the spindle and the vibration is decreased and the natural frequency of the assembly is moved to a high frequency region and the deflection of the spindle shaft 5 caused by thermal deformation is reduced. Thus, the positioning error between the head and disk is reduced and high density recording is attained.
