Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an iron-containing nacreous pigment having a new brownish hue which has not been realized by any conventional iron-containing nacreous pigments, by depositing amorphous iron (III) oxide hydroxide on mica titanium flakes. CONSTITUTION:An iron-containing nacreous pigment is prepared by depositing amorphous iron (III) oxide hydroxide on mica titanium flakes. It is possible to produce a pigment of a hue, especially a new brownish hue, which has heretofore not been realized by conventional iron-containing nacreous pigments, i.e., alpha-FeOOH, beta-FeOOH, gamma-FeOH and Fe3O4. When a deposit of amorphous iron (III) oxide hydroxide is baked at 300 deg.C or higher, an effect of improving the vividness of the pigment can be brought about.
