Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a rubber composition excellent in flatting resistance, by mixing an ethylene/propylene/diene copolymer of specified properties with carbon black and a process oil. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene, propylene and a diene such as 1,4-hexadiene are polymerized under normal pressure or a slightly elevated pressure in an inert solvent in the presence of a suitable catalyst to obtain an ethylene/propylene/diene copolymer having a diene compositional distribution specified by IL/IM>=1.2 (wherein IM and IL are the iodine values of the higher and lower 50wt.% portions in the molecular weight distribution) and an ethylene content of 50-70wt.%. 100pts.wt. this copolymer of said specified properties is mixed with 10-200pts. wt. carbon black, 0-150pts.wt. process oil and, optionally, a vulcanizer, a vulcanization accelerator, an antioxidant, a filler, etc.
