Abstract

PURPOSE:To inspect a metallic member and a nonmetallic member at the same time by applying a penetrating liquid and performing neutron radiography. CONSTITUTION:An inspection area (sample) 1 is cleaned and then the penetrating liquid 2 is penetrated into a crack microdefect part 3. The excessive penetrating liquid is removed completely and then a neutron ray source 4 is used to project a neutron beam 8, thereby projecting a transmission image of the sample 1 on a film 7. The film 7 on which the transmission image is projected is developed and observed. A converter which converts a neutron into alpha particles and the film 7 are put in a film set 5 and the projection is carried out. Consequently, defects 10 such as cracking in metal, the cracking and charging state of the nonmetallic member 9 which is stored internally, etc., are inspected at the same time.
