Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the generation of scales on a reverse-osmosis membrane by keeping raw water with an acid or an alkali in the vicinity of the pH at which the maximum salt removal efficiency is exhibited in the allowable pH range of the reverse-osmosis membrane consisting of a polyether composite membrane, etc. CONSTITUTION:The reverse-osmosis membrane 1 such as a polyether composite membrane and a polyvinyl alcohol membrane exhibiting >=95% salt removal efficiency in the allowable pH range is used. The salt removal efficiency of the membrane 1 changes with the pH of the raw water, and the raw water is kept at the pH where the maximum salt removal efficiency is exhibited. The pH of the raw water is controlled by a tank 2 contg. an acid or an alkali and an injection pump 3, and the output of a pH detector 4 is fed back to the injection pump 3 through a pH meter 11. An acrylic polymer is used as an inorg. ion deposition preventing agent, and a strongly alkaline substance is used as a silica deposition preventing agent.
