Abstract

PURPOSE:To store a large quantity of disks by forming a rotary shelf system with plural rotary plates disposed concentrically in the same position. CONSTITUTION:A disk 10 is mounted to a recessed groove 17 of a rotary shelf 15 excluding one place facing a spindle motor 26. Under such circumstances, when a working command is issued from a central control part (not shown in the figure), a sliding base 25 and a moving base 30 are moved through the vacant recessed groove 17 in the vertical direction, and then stopped at a height of the required rotary plate 18. Then, the rotary shelf 15 is rotated, and the required disk 10 is stopped in an opposite position to the motor 26 and a cone mechanism 31 respectively, and then the sliding base 25 is farther ascended to let the motor 26 and the cone mechanism 31 pick up and hold the disk 10 between them from the rotary plate 18, and afterward the motor 26 is rotated to rotate the disk 10. Under such circumstances, a head mechanism 27 is worked to carry out the write/read operation of the necessary information. On completion of the operation, the disk 10 is stopped in its rotation and the sliding base 25 is descended, so that the disk 10 is brought back to the original recessed groove 17, while the rotary shelf 15 is rotated to revert to its original position.
