Abstract
PURPOSE:To speed up the crystallization and phase transition of a recording layer which is reversibly changed in phase between different crystal phases when the layer is irradiated with a light beam by forming the above-mentioned recording layer of an alloy expressed by the specific formula. CONSTITUTION:The recording layer is formed of the alloy having the compsn. expressed by the formula In50-xSb50-xTeyAuz, where the functions of (x), (y), (z) are defined to 2x=y+z, 0<x<=10. The light beam is then projected on this layer. The phase transition is generated between the fine crystal of an InSb intermetallic compd. and the phase mixed with the amorphous layer of TeyAuz by the conditions for the photoirradiation at this time so that the mixed crystal layer is formed at the time of initialization and information erasing and the mixed amorphous layer is formed at the time of information recording. Namely, the recording layer is so formed that the layer can take the two phase states and the reading of the information is enabled by using the difference in the reflectivities thereof. The defective initialization and the incomplete erasing are thereby extremely minimized.
