Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled device comprising a first adsorbent consisting of any of various fibers or a porous material to adsorb leukocyte and a second adsorbent consisting of active carbon or an ion exchange resin to adsorb harmful substances accumulated during preservation of blood packed in the same device. CONSTITUTION:An erythrocyte fractionating and purifying device 10 or 20 wherein a first adsorbent 11 to adsorb leukocyte and a second adsorbent 12 to adsorb harmful substances (e.g., substance released from blood cell component, metabolic product and eluted substances from a blood preservation container) are mutually laminated and arranged in the interior of a main body 13 or exist together. The first adsorbent consists of synthetic fibers, semisynthetic fibers, regenerated fibers, inorganic fibers, natural fibers, inorganic or synthetic porous material and the second adsorbent consists of active carbon, ion exchange resin, ion exchange fibers, zirconium phosphate-based adsorbing material, alumina or zeolite. The harmful substances are removed from erythrocyte by the device and the erythrocyte can eliminate danger of side effects occurring in blood transfusion.
