PURPOSE:To improve damping force by housing a reciprocating type second valve body to which pre-load is applied by a spring inside a rotary type first valve body. CONSTITUTION:The captioned suspension device has a first valve body 31, which is rotated to change orifices thereby enabling the switchover of a damping force. A second valve body 41 such as a poppet valve, etc., is housed inside the valve body 31, and a force in a valve opening direction is applied to the valve body 41 by the pressure of a working fluid at the time when a rod 3 is operated in the extending direction. In this case, since a pre-load in the valve closing direction is being applied to the valve body 41 by means of a spring 45, the valve 41 is not opened unless the pressure of the fluid exceeds a certain value. Thereby, even within the small range of displacing speed in the vicinity of the neutral point of the rod 3, a large damping force on the extending side can be obtained.
