Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the base area of a fuel cell large compared with its height to increase earthquake-resistant performance by installing joints and connecting pipes in the upper parts of tanks of a plurality of fuel cells installed in parallel. CONSTITUTION:Hollow joints 24 installed in the upper part of a tank 14 of each fuel cell are connected with a hollow connecting pipe 26, and each fuel cell is firmly fixed to a footstall with foundation bolts 21 to integrate each fuel cell. A fuel cell system forms very stable structure having a large base area compared with its height and remarkably decreases the danger of collapsing. Since the pipes to be installed in the lower part of the tank are eliminated, the space in the lower part of the tank is substantially increased. The joints 24 are also used as a hanging lug for fuel cell, and the joints 24 and connecting pipe 26 are used for piping through which nitrogen gas is supplied to each tank 14.
