Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent each change-over pin from being slipped off by constituting a plurarity of change-over pins to be coupled concurrently with a specified plurarity of cam followers at the time of change-over, which is incorporated in a mechanism wherein the change-over of a plurarity of cam followers is made between a connected condition and a released condition. CONSTITUTION:The suction valve of an internal combustion engine is opened/ closed by both NO.1 and NO.2 rocker arms 7 and 8 pivotally supported by a rocker shaft 6, NO.3 rocker arm 9 as a free cam follower, a connection change-over mechanism 10 provided between respective arms 7 through 9 and the like. And the connection change-over mechanism 10 is equipped with each of NO.1 and NO.2 change-over pins 23 and 24 connecting respective arms 7 through 9, a restraining pin 25 restraining the movement of each change-over pin 23 and 24, and a return spring 26 energizing each pin 23 through 25 to the connection releasing side. In the constitution described above, each of NO.1 and NO.2 change-over pins 23 and 24 is constituted to be coupled with both a guide port 33 and NO.2 guide hole 34 concurrently when the connection is made wherein a hydlaulic chamber 28 is subjected to hydraulic pressure.
