Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain in high productivity the titled fiber with high strength and high initial modulus, by dry-wet spinning of a spinning stock solution prepared by dissolving PVA in a solvent into a cooling medium bath immiscible with both the PVA and solvent to be made into yarn, extracting the residual solvent followed by drawing. CONSTITUTION:First, a spinning stock solution is prepared by dissolving PVA (pref. with a degree of polymerization of >=1,500) in a solvent consisting mainly of a mixture of dimethylsulfoxide and water with the weight ratio of pref. 90:10-55:45 so that the concentration of the resulting solution fall pref. between 2-35wt.%. This stock solution is then subjected to dry-wet spinning into a cooling medium bath immiscible with both the PVA and solvent (pref. paraffin oil or decalin) to form yarn. Thence, the solvent left in said yarn is extracted using pref. methanol or acetone followed by drawing to obtain the objective fiber.
