Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a titled medium which is stable, is large in Kerr rotating angle and has perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and large coercive force in the perpendicular direction by using a thin film of a specific intermetallic compd. consisting of Pt, Mn and Sb. CONSTITUTION:The thin film consisting of the intermetallic compd. of the PtMnSb system consisting of the compsn. expressed by PtxMnySbz(x+y+z=1, 15<=x<=35, 30<=y<=46, 25<=z<=40) is used. The temp. of, for example, a substrate is kept at about 50-150 deg.C and the thin film can be formed by formed by introducing gaseous argon, etc., in the case of the forming the thin film by a sputtering method. The magnetic characteristics of the thin film depend relatively more on a plasma gaseous pressure than on the substrate temp. at the time of sputtering and the perpendicular component appears in the anisotropy with an increase in the gaseous pressure. The magneto-optical recording medium having the large coercive force of <=300Oe in the perpendicular direction is thus obtd. The magneto-optical recording medium having the large Kerr rotating angle, the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and the large coercive force in the perpendicular direction is thus obtd.
