Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the title resin excellent in appearance such as gloss, by polymerizing a specific butadiene/styrene block copolymer having a specified structure and styrene monomer or the like. CONSTITUTION:A monomer mixture comprising butadiene and styrene having a desired composition ratio is supplied into a hydrocarbon solvent in which an organolithium catalyst is present at a rate below the polymerization rate which is one at the preset polymerization temperature, and the polymerization is carried out to produce a butadiene/styrene block copolymer (A) wherein the molecular weight at the peak of the molecular weight distribution curve of the block styrene sections is 30,000 or more, the content of the sections having a molecular weight of one-third or below of the molecular weight at the peak is 25-50mol.% of all the block styrene sections, the total styrene content of the copolymer is 15-50wt.% wherein the block styrene content is 65wt.% or more, and the molecular weight at the peak of the molecular weight distribution curve of the copolymer is 200,000-650,000. Then, 3-25wt.% component (A) and 97-75wt.% styrene-based monomer or mixture of a styrene- based monomer and a monomer copolymerizable therewith (B) is subjected to bulk (suspension) polymerization or solution polymerization.
