Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the processing efficiency and reliability by providing a means provided with a padding information byte in information written on a magnetic tape and a reproduction processing means using the byte to apply information discrimination. CONSTITUTION:Dummy padding information byte 24 is added at write to make the length of information the same as the information interval to which a RESYNC code is inserted. The byte 24 consists of a byte 30 for dummy information part and a byte length 31 representing the length of byte of the dummy information, a detection circuit 9 discriminates the byte length 31 to give a command it to a demodulation circuit 10 to eliminate the dummy subject to padding. An identification code detection circuit 8 detects a SYNC code representing the end location from the byte length 31 in the forward reproduction and the circuit 9 discriminates it that the readout information just before is the padding information byte length. In detecting the SYNC code 21 representing the start position at the reverse reproduction by the circuit 8, the circuit 9 discriminates it that the readout information just after is a padding information byte length. Through the constitution above, the location of the identification code is predicted, the mis-detection of the identification code is avoided and the reliability is improved.
