Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a copied recording medium from being further copied by encoding an information source or its appended signal to be recorded. CONSTITUTION:An input signal including a copy restricting flag is inputted from an input terminal 11 to a detection and decision circuit 12 and an encoder 13. The circuit 12 decides the restricting flag out of the input signal, and when the restricting flag is 00 (restricted), then an encoding operation is carried out. Now, an identification signal is supplied from an identification signal generator 14 to change the restricting flag into 01 (encoded). This processed signal is recorded together with the flag 01 to a recording medium via an output terminal 15. Now, when the input signal is decided by the circuit 12 that the restricting flag of the input signal is 01, this input signal is a reproducing signal from a copied tape, so that the sound recording is forbidden by a sound recording forbidding circuit 20.
