Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain fast response characteristics even in a transmission band of >=1 G bit/second by connecting electrodes of a light receiving element directly to a signal pattern and a bias line pattern in contact and providing the signal pattern, the bias line pattern, and a load resistance pattern on the same plane. CONSTITUTION:The respective electrodes of the light receiving element 20 are connected directly to the terminals of the signal line pattern 16 and bias line pattern 16 in contact. The load resistance pattern 15, on the other hand, is led out from nearby the electrodes of the light receiving element 20 and matched with the characteristic impedance of the signal line pattern 15. A recessed part is formed in the terminal part of the optical waveguide 11 by etching, etc., so as to make projection light from the optical waveguide 11 incident on the light receiving surface 20A. Then the internal wall of the recessed part corresponding to the end surface of the optical waveguide 11 is slanted by 45 deg. to the optical axis of the optical waveguide 11 and the projection light is reflected by the end surface of the optical waveguide 11 and changed in direction by 90 deg.. Consequently, the fast response characteristics are superior and this structure is applicable to the signal band of >=1 G bit/ second.
