Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance arc-extinguishing efficiency as well as to improve the safety while narrowing the arc space by composing a circuit breaker of a overcurrent detector, a switching mechanism actuated thereby, a discharge passage of arc generated between a power source side and a load side, and an arc chamber communicated therewith. CONSTITUTION:When a short-circuit current flows in a passage, it is detected by an overcurrent detector 21 to operate an switching mechanism 18, closing the contact of a terminal 13 on a power side to a terminal 15 on a load side. Next, arc generated at that time is passed through an arc-extinguishing unit 31 having therein a plurality of arc-extinguishing plates and then flowed into a discharge passage 26. Then, the arc flow attenuated is passed through an arc chamber 28 having therein a plurality of spaced arc plates and then discharged outside. It is thus possible to improve arc-extinguishing efficiency, ensuring the extinguishing of arc by extending the arc flow passage, to reduce the panel on the rear side of a distribution pannel for mounting a breaker, and to improve the safety for the operator.
