Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable cleaning to be certainly performed without bringing deterioration of a discharge surface or the like, by providing a light source for drying the surface of a recording head to which a discharge port for discharging ink is established. CONSTITUTION:A light source 31 is provided to a position adjacent to a head recovery apparatus 26 and in oppose to a discharge surface 20A, and light is irradiated in order to dry the discharge surface 20A. Said irradiation is suitably controlled and only the discharge surface 20A is made dry. That is, a head home position sensor 511 for positioning a recording head 20 at a position opposed to cap part 26A of the head recovery apparatus 26, and a head irradiation position sensor 512 for positioning it to a position opposed to the light source 31 are provided. Then, irradiation is continued for a specific time while the discharge surface 20A wetted by ink is dried by a discharge recovery process and drying is not generated inside the discharge port. Thereby, cleaning is certainly performed without generating deterioration of the discharge surface or the like, and recording can be performed keeping the discharge surface under a good state.
