Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve high speed durability and enhance riding comfort by placing a belt ply formed by rubber coating a composite cord which consists of a core material made of nonmetallic high-strength fiber and having each specified specific gravity, tensile modulus, and breakage elongation and a steel wire having specified volume fraction, on the outer periphery of the crown part of a carcass. CONSTITUTION:Steel wires 31-3n in each of which plus plating is carried out in such a way that a steel wire has a volume fraction of 0.25-0.72, are placed in a layer on the outer periphery of a core material 2 made of nonmetallic high-strength fiber cords, e.g., Aramid fiber cords or cords impregnated with the resin thereof and having a specific gravity of 3.0 or less, a tensile modulus of 7.000-31.000kg f/mm<2>, and a braking extension of 1.2-4.2% forming a composite cord 1. This composite cord 1 is rubber coated to form a belt ply, which is placed in one or more layers on the outer periphery of the crown part of a carcass. By this structure, high speed durability can be improved while giving riding comfort.
