Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a plant-growth regulator containing a (thio)succinimide derivative including novel compound, free from phytotoxicity such as defoliation and damage of surface of fruit, inert to unripe fruit and acting exclusively to ripe fruit to promote the falling off of the fruit from the tree.
CONSTITUTION: The objective agent contains a compound of formula I {R1 is H, lower alkyl or phenyl; R2 is H, halogen, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, phenylthio, phenylamino, etc.; X is O or N-Z (Z is H, lower alkyl, phenyl, phenoxy, group of formula II (Y is group of formula III, formula IV, etc.), etc.; F0-1 is number of double bonds]}, e.g. 2-(3-chlorophenyl)-3- phenylthiosuccinimide (a novel compound) as an active component. A synergistic effect can be attained by the combined use of the above compound together with ethephon of formula V known as an agent for promoting formation of abscission layer. The compound has a plant-growth suppressing effect (herbicidal activity).
