Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the temperature rise of a liquid crystal(LC) display element by shielding between a fluorescent lamp and the LC display element by an infrared-ray shielding filter. CONSTITUTION: The LC display device is provided with the infrared-ray shielding filter 5 for shielding between the fluorescent lamp 4 and the LC display element 1. Although the element 1 is thermally weak, and when the temperature of an LC substance 12 is increased, its molecular array is disturbed and display is instabilized as its defects, about 30% of infrared rays radiated from the lamp 34 is interrupted by the filter 5 and the arrival to the infrared rays at the element 1 is prevented. Consequently the temperature rise of the element 11 is suppressed and the instability or disturbance of the display is suppressed.
