Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the oxidation deterioration of a heating metal wire by constituting an ignition part arranged in the upstream part of a filter element by burying the heating metal wire which is bent in the (x) and (y) directions and extended in the direction for crossing passages into a ceramic basic body having a number of passages in the (x) and (y) directions. CONSTITUTION:A filter element 2 in honeycomb structure for arresting fine particles in the exhaust gas consists of a number of introducing passages 4 and exhaust passages 5 which extend in parallel in the axis center direction and a porous partitioning wall 6 having a lattice-shaped sectional surface for dividing these passages 4 and 5, and an ignition part 3 is formed at the upstream side edge part. The ignition part 3 includes a ceramic basic body 9 which is formed integrally with the element 2 and has a partitioning wall 10 having a lattice-shaped sectional surface, and a heating metal wire 13 is arranged on the basic body 9. The metal wire 13 is buried into the ceramic burying body 8 so as to be extended in meandering, in other words so as to be extended in the (x) direction so as to cross a number of passages 11 and then bent in the (y) direction and then extended in the same direction and then bent in the (x) direction again.
