Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title condensate which has a high viscosity and a high MW and can give a paint which can be rapidly cured when used as a film- forming component, by heating a specified organosilicon compound and boric acid in the presence of an alcoholic solvent. CONSTITUTION:At least one member selected from among an organosilicon compound of formula I (wherein R is a 1-5C alkyl) and/or its precondensate and an organic compound of formula II (wherein R is the same as above, and R' is a 1-8C alkyl) is reacted with boric acid in the presence of an alcoholic solvent by heating, and alcohols in an amount larger than that of the alcohol added is removed by distillation from the reaction mixture. In this way, the title high-viscosity high-MW condensate free from silanol and hydroxyl groups in the molecule can be obtained. When a paint in which this condensate is used as a film forming component is applied to a substrate, it can be rapidly cured with moisture in air into a film of excellent properties. This condensate can be formed into an enamel containing only an extender and a coloring pigment which are usually used, and it can form tough film free of crazing or peeling when it is applied in a thickness of about 50mu.
