Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a wiry material, having excellent productivity and useful as optical fibers, etc., at a low cost, by sampling an initially wound part of the wiry material in a drawing machine by a specific means while winding the part around a drum one or more turns to carry out a qualification test and winding the wiry material around the drum. CONSTITUTION:An initially wound part (10a) of a wiry material 10 drawn and formed by a drawing machine is wound around a drum 18 one or more turns through a take-off machine 12, a guide means 14 and a tension controlling means 16, then pulled by an air gun 24 while being fed at a constant speed and sampled. The resultant sample is subsequently inspected (e.g. outside diameter and core diameter of an optical fiber) by an inspecting means to confirm desired quality. The initial winding part (10a) obtained by the confirmation is then moved from a position (A) to (B) by an air cylinder 26 of the air gun 24. The moved wiry material 10 is subsequently caught by a capturing pawl 22, fixed to the drum 18 and wound by normal operation.
