Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove silicone over the entire periphery of an optical fiber by putting two rollers in associative operation in parallel and at right angles to the axial direction of the optical fiber while dripping a solvent on the rollers. CONSTITUTION:The lower end of the clad part of the optical cable is gripped and fixed by a clamping device 10 and a silicone removing device 20 is elevated in this state and set at a reference position; and the two rollers 21 and 21' of the silicone removing device 20 are driven and a vertical reciprocating device 40 and a horizontal reciprocating device 60 are driven associatively at the same time. Therefore, while the silicone removing device 20 itself reciprocates vertically and horizontally, the silicone of the optical fiber is removed between the two rollers 21 and 21'. Further, a solvent dripping device 30 drips a proper amount of the solvent during the silicon removing operation to clean away the silicone. Consequently, the silicon removing operation is performed uniformly over the entire periphery of the optical fiber.
