Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve adhesiveness to matrix resin and increase uniformity of adhesiveness in longitudinal direction of fiber by subjecting carbon fiber to which surface treatment is applied by vapor phase oxidation to immersing treatment in boiled water. CONSTITUTION: A carbon fiber which is subjected to surface treatment by carrying out vapor phase oxidation according to a well known method is traveled for a short time in water in boiled state to modify the surface. Thereby, surface shear strength between the fiber and matrix resin is increased and adhesiveness to matrix resin is improved and uniformity of adhesiveness in the longitudinal direction of the fiber is increased.
