Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled insoluble, infusible and noncombustible fiber having excellent heat-resistance and chemical resistance, at a low cost, by mixing a specific modified phenolic novolak with a photo-polymerization initiator, etc., spinning the mixture by melt-spinning, etc., and crosslinking with ultraviolet irradiation. CONSTITUTION:The objective fiber can be produced by (1) mixing (A) a modified phenolic novolak wherein H atom. of at least one phenolic hydroxyl group in the molecular chain of a phenolic novolak is substituted with an ultraviolet- sensitive compound (e.g. acrylic acid or 2-ethylhexyl acrylate) containing one or more acryloyl groups or allyl groups, etc., in one molecule with (B) one or more kinds of photo-polymerization initiator (e.g. benzophenone) and (C) a sensitizer (e.g. hexachloroethane), (2) spinning the mixture by melt-spinning or dry-spinning and (3) crosslinking the obtained fiber by ultraviolet irradiation.
