Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve a higher S/N ratio, by a method wherein a surface to be detected comprising a reflecting surface and a non-reflecting surface not the same in the height is provided at a part of an external surface of a rotor to be detected and a light emitting element and a light receiving element are arranged toward the surface being detected. In a pulse generator thus arranged, the reflecting surface 2 passes at a distance of d0(=d'0+e) from a reflection type photosensor 4 while the non-reflecting surface 3 passes at a distance of d'0(=d0-e), thereby enabling the obtaining of a high S/N with limited effect of extraneous light.
