Abstract

PURPOSE:To extract an area part surrounded by continuous picture elements only by simple logical operation and to simplify the painting-out of the inside of a closed contour of an image by inverting an input picture and executing labeling processing. CONSTITUTION:An image photographed by a camera 20 is converted into a digital image by an A/D converter 22 and the digital image is inputted to an image processing processor 24, binarized and stored in an image memory 280. Then, the values of respective picture elements in the binarized image inputted to the memory 280 are inverted and stored in an image memory 281, labeling processing for successively numbering respective picture elements by setting up a background area as '1' is executed and the labeled result is stored in an image memory 282. Then, an area (background area) to be deleted is selected by a CPU 30, picture elements of the background area in the memory 282 are deleted and the deleted result is stored in a memory 283 by setting up the labeled picture element as '1'. OR operation between corresponding picture elements of the images in the memories 280, 283 is executed and stored in a memory 284. Thus, the inside of the closed contour of an image can be simply painted out.
