Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect the occurrence of surface discharge simply without using an electric means, by attaching containers for adsorbing material in a ventilating path in an electric equipment, and performing chemical analysis of nitric acid ions and nitrous acid ions, which are absorbed into the adsorbing material. CONSTITUTION:Containers A-C of adsorbing material are attached to a ventilating path in a piece of equipment. After a specified time, the absorbing material is taken out of the containers A-C. Quantitative analysis of the absorbing material is performed by ion chromatography, and the amount of the presence of nitric acid ions is examined. The analysis of the nitric acid ions by the ion chromatography is performed as follows: Silica gel is inputted into pure water; the attached ions are eluted by ultrasonic wave washing; the elute is analyzed by the ion chromatography, and the adsorbed amount of the nitric acid is examined. Thus, the surface discharge, which occurs in the electric equipment, can be readily detected.
