Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the selection of an EL panel having good insulation characteristics via a pressure resistant aging treatment by stabilizing the EC panel with pressure and low voltage aging treatment and high voltage aging treatment. CONSTITUTION:Pressure resistant aging treatment first applies for minimizing the fracture of improper picture elements in an EL panel immediately after the manufacture thereof. The conditions of the aging treatment are subject to the constitution of the panel. As conventionally, for example, a few seconds are allotted to each line of a back plate 1 for the drive thereof in the condition wherein a drive frequency of 500Hz to 1kHz is applied with a protection resistor of 1kOMEGA to 5.6kOMEGA inserted for each line of the back plate 1, the width of an applicable pulse is 10mu sec to 30mums and applicable voltage is taken at the addition of 20V to 60V to the threshold voltage of Vth enabling obtaining the brightness of 1candela/m<2>. According to the aforesaid pressure resistant aging treatment, the characteristic deterioration of the EL panel 11 due to the defect of a membrane can be prevented. Then, low voltage aging treatment using voltage equal to or below the predetermined threshold voltage value and high voltage aging treatment using voltage over said value are respectively applied in said order.
