Abstract
PURPOSE:To make an interaction between an arc to be produced between electrodes and a magnetic field made by an external circuit preventable even at the time of interrupting a large current by forming a tubular conductor longer than gap length with a hot superconductive material around the electrode so as to surround it. CONSTITUTION:When a current 1 flows, as in an arrow, into an external circuit of a vacuum circuit breaker, there is produced a magnetic field H in the vertical direction as shown in illustration. This magnetic field H cannot be entered in the inner part of a tubular conductor 12 due to a minus effect, and it is strained as in a broken line, therefore the magnetic field H to be produced by this current will not act on an arc produced between electrodes 6 and 8 even in the case where the current 1 flowing in the external circuit is large enough. Consequently, the arc is stably and uniformly distributed on each surface of these electrodes 6 and 8, and since the whole surface of each electrode is effectively utilizable, circuit breaking is made possible. And that since each local fusion and roughing of these electrodes 6 and 8 can be avoided, deterioration in voltage resisting capacity after interruption by electrostatic focusing is thus preventable. Accordingly, such a vacuum circuit breaker that is compact in size and interruptible can be secured.
