Abstract

PURPOSE: To make discount operation easy and prevent misoperation by reading discount data out of a magnetic tape by a magnetic card reader and storing the data in a discount data memory. CONSTITUTION: The codes of commodities to be discounted and the discount amounts are read out of magnetic cards that customers have brought by the magnetic card reader writers of POS terminals 11 -1m in advance and stored in the discount data memory of a host computer 4. In this state, when the codes of commodities that a customer purchases are inputted sequentially through an input means, retrieval from the discount data memory is performed and when the same commodity code is found, the corresponding discount amount is read out and deduced from the unit price read out of a single-commodity table, so that the result is registered in the memory. When totalization is done with a total key, only discount data which are not used by the current registration among discount data stored previously in the discount data memory are written to the magnetic card by the magnetic card reader writer and the magnetic card is returned to the customer.
