CONSTITUTION:Notches 33A-33D and a tip 31 of an identification sheet 30 are detected by a couple of sensors TS1, TS2 and whether the paper placed on the original platen is on original or an identification sheet is discriminated depending on the difference of the on-timing of the sensors TS1, TS2. On the other hand, the paper size is detected by plural paper width sensors SA3, SA4, SB4. The deviation of the paper placed is calculated based on the paper width output of the plural paper width sensors SA3, SA4, SB4 and the output from a couple of the sensors TS1, TS2 and the picture read timing is controlled based on the said deviation. Even if the original is placed with a deviation, the picture is read out without losing part of the original.
