Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the subject hybrid paper useful as a wall paper for a building material, having excellent water resistance, weather resistance, stain resistance and heat resistance by impregnating a paper base with a polymer containing a siloxane bond as a main chain bond and fixing the polymer to the paper base. CONSTITUTION: A paper base is impregnated with a polymer containing a siloxane bond as a main chain bond and the polymer is fixed to the paper base to give the objective hybrid paper. In impregnating the paper base with the polymer, preferably the paper base is impregnated with a prepolymer obtained by hydrolyzing and condensing a silicon alkoxide of the formula RnSi(OR')4-n ((n) is 0-3; R and R' are each a 1-4C alkyl), which is dried and cured. The prepolymer has preferably 200-2,000 weight-average molecular weight. At least one kind selected from an acidic catalyst, an aminosilane, a quaternary ammonium salt of an inorganic (organic) acid, an amine salt of an inorganic (organic) acid and an organometallic compound is preferable as the catalyst for synthesizing the prepolymer.
