Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable adequate recording density to be obtained with the first image signal for printing without reduction of recording rate by supplying the first application power which works short of printing regardless of the presence of characters to be printed at the time of its performance, and supplying further to the second application power to only a heat generating element corresponding to an image signal for printing. CONSTITUTION:A pulse generator 4 which receives a printing start signal j generates a pulsed signal h, and this signal is given to a non-recording head 1 as an energization control signal for a heat generating element. The pulse width of the pulsed signal h is previously set to a width that an application power Pa to be applied to each heat generating element works but is not adequate to start printing.
