Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a stable braking force by reducingly operating the braking capacity of an exhaust brake which closes an exhaust passage when the braking capacity of an auxiliary brake which loads a braking force corresponding to a vehicle speed on the crankshaft of an engine is in the vicinity of its limit. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust brake 5 consists of an exhaust brake valve 7 for increasing the pumping work of an engine 1 when an exhaust passage 3 is closed, and a driving device 8 for opening/closing the exhaust brake valve 7. Also, an auxiliary brake 6 makes air flow from an intake port 18 to a discharge port 19 by means of the rotation of a turbine impeller 16 housed in a turbine housing 17. And, a controller 40 drives a solenoid valve 14 and a stepping motor 39 based on various data, to control the brakes 5, 6. In this case, when the braking capacity of the auxiliary brake 6 is in the vicinity of its limit, the braking capacity of the exhaust brake 5 is reducingly operated and, then, the auxiliary brake 6 is restored.
