Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a space for the escape of the loop of a transfer material and to enhance the scaling-down of a device by refuging a conveying means from the surface of a photosensitive body as soon as the tailing edge of the transfer material leaves from an image forming medium and altering the conveying speed of the conveying means. CONSTITUTION:An ascending and descending means 44 is installed, which makes the transfer material conveying means 39 for conveying the transfer material to image forming stations I-III equipping image forming media refuge from the surface of the image forming medium. When the tailing edge part of the transfer material leaves from the image forming stations I-III, the ascending and descending means 44 is actuated to move the conveying means 39 to a refuge position separate from the image stations I-III and also alter the transfer conveying speed of the conveying means 39. Thus, the loop amount of the transfer material formed between the conveying means 39 and a fixing means 56 can be suppressed to the minimum and sufficient thermal capacity can be given to the transfer material, so that the space for the escape of the loop of the transfer material is not necessitated and the scaling-down and the high rigidity of the device can be attained.
