Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the excellent nonlinear optical characteristics and a broad transparent region of the titled material in a visible ray region by incorporating a compd. having a specified cyclophane structure, in the titled material. CONSTITUTION:The titled material contains the compd. having the cyclophane structure shown by formula I wherein part A is an aromatic ring or a heterocyclic ring having electron donating property, part B is an aromatic ring having electron accepting property, and is a length of methylene chain binding of the parts A and B, (m) is 2-10. Namely, as the electron donating part A and the electron accepting part B are separated in space, the charge-transfer between the parts A and B is a few in a normal state, thereby making difficult to absorb a light in the visible ray region due to the charge-transfer. Thus, the transparency of the titled material over the broad visible ray region is obtd., and as the nonlinear polarizability is in proportion to the difference in the dipole moment between an excited state and the normal state, the large nonlinear polarizability is obtd.
