Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable images to be printed in continuity in a main scanning direction even in a low density region at the time of representing intermediate tones by a density gradation method and contrive higher image quality, by disposing a good heat conductor between each pair of adjacent heat generating resistor dots or in the vicinity of the resistor dots. CONSTITUTION:A heat accumulating layer 2, heat generating resistors 3, pairs of electrodes 4a, 4b, heat generating resistor dots 5 and a protective film 6 are provided on a substrate 1 of an alumina ceramic or the like. A good heat conductor 20 comprising an insulating material is disposed on the face side between each pair of adjacent heat generating resistor dots 5. Both end parts of each good heat conductor 20 make contact with the dots 5, and receive heat from the dots 5. The insulating good heat conductors 20 may be constituted of diamond-like carbon, boron nitride or the like. Part of the heat generated by the dot 5 is transmitted through the conductor 20 to gap parts between the dot and the adjacent dots, thereby raising the temperature at the gap parts. Therefore, in this thermal head, the lowering of the temperature at the gap parts between the dots arranged in a main scanning direction is reduced.
